Is Your Dog’s Humping Behavior a Problem?
Normal
Dogs usually mount things due to stress, over-stimulation, or as a way to show dominance. Humping or mounting items rarely has to do with sexual behavior or expression. If you’re able to redirect your dog’s attention and change their course of behavior, then the humping and mounting is likely just a sign that your dog may have excess energy they need to burn. Of course, we always recommend that you seek advice from your veterinarian!
Consider changing some things
Some changes in your dog’s routine might help curb their humping behavior. Dogs generally hump or mount things because they’re trying to release excess energy or for them to cope with stress. If your dog is stressed out, a great thing to consider is if your dog is able to expend its energy, either by going on walks or playing with you. Of course, we always recommend that you seek advice from your veterinarian!
